Centre of Molecular Virologist For Diagnostic and Research
Molecular virology Centre for diagnostic & research is engaged in the detection of multiple diseases through molecular diagnosis including Covid-19.
In this pandemic, viewing the current situation the Centre is fully focused on the covid-19 testing. With all the advanced instruments and resources, our laboratory is considered a fully equipped laboratory containing both BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities. With the availability of RT PCR and True-Nat, we are very competent to test more than 3000 samples per day. Four RT PCR machines and a True-Nat are deployed in our laboratory to do the work smoothly and have the proficiency to dispatch the report within 24 hours. For emergency patients, the Centre is reporting the Covid-19 test result within 2-3 hours.
Apart from Covid-19, The Centre also started to detect HLA-B27 through True-Nat testing and getting more than one sample every day. The sensitivity and specificity of the test are much higher than the HLA-B27 antigen test and also early detection through the RT-PCR method is helping clinicians to start treatment soon.
Added to the RTPCR laboratory the Centre has a full set-up conventional PCR laboratory for different types of diagnosis and research, where students are continuing their research on molecular works. Some of the research work on detection of MDR resistance genes has been started and others are planned to start work on the identification of Scrub typhus and leptospirosis, detection of leprosy through PCR method and identification of ESBL & MBL genes, and many more.
